GST Return Downloader

Download your own GST returns and ledgers from the GST Portal, one client at a time, and have every file land in a folder named for that client's GSTIN and financial year. The downloader runs inside the CA PRO Chrome extension, in a GST Portal session you sign in to yourself.

This page cannot download anything: the website never visits the GST Portal, never sees your portal credentials, and never receives your return files. The extension asks you to sign in to the portal yourself, and the files go from the portal straight to your computer's Downloads folder.

How to start

1

Add the extension

Install CA PRO Toolkit from the Chrome Web Store and sign in with your Google account.

2

Open the GST Portal and sign in yourself

Open gst.gov.in in Chrome and sign in to the portal as you always do. The downloader only works inside a session you signed in to by hand - it never asks for your portal password.

3

Start the downloader from the extension

Open the CA PRO extension, choose the GST Return Downloader, pick the clients and periods, and press start. The portal prepares each file; the extension collects it and reports what it could and could not get.

Press "Open the downloader" after installing the extension:

Add to Chrome

Where the files land

Every saved file is named after its taxpayer and period, and filed under CA PRO Toolkit in your Downloads folder, like this:

CA PRO Toolkit\27AAAAA0000A1Z5\FY 2025-26\GSTR-1\27AAAAA0000A1Z5_GSTR-1_2025-26_April.zip

A month the portal could not produce is reported as Failed — needs you, with the reason the portal gave - it is never shown as downloaded, and nothing is marked filed or verified.

Your firm's year board

Sign in with the same Google account your firm uses in CA PRO, and this page shows what the extension recorded for your firm: for each client and return, what each download run found, month by month. It reads the same records the extension's popup and the Windows app's Imports → GST downloads page show. Records exist only if your firm's recording setting is on and a run has happened.

Sign-in runs through Google; this page receives your name, email and firm from CA PRO's server and nothing else. It never sees the GST Portal.

What it does not do

It does not file, submit, pay or e-sign anything, and it never solves the portal's sign-in checks for you. It works one client at a time, for the GSTIN you signed in as, and it refuses anything shaped like filing or payment. A file the portal is still generating is reported as still generating, so you can come back for it.

What leaves this computer

GST files go from GST Portal straight to your Downloads folder. CA PRO's servers receive a month of GSTR-2B only when you press Send to reconciliation, to turn it into review rows for your firm.

While your firm's recording setting is on, a run's record goes to your firm's CA PRO account: which files were saved and whether GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B showed as filed. Never a file's contents.
